EScooter Accident Claims

EScooter Accident Claims

Escooters are becoming increasingly popular modes of transport, especially for those living in large towns or cities. Escooters have many positives, they are cheap, fast and can be ridden in cycle lanes, which is beneficial for those wanting to avoid traffic jams at peak times.

However, they do also have many negatives which are often overlooked. Many e-scooter companies do not require a UK provisional license to hire out the device, often they will have a minimum age requirement, however they do not ask for proof of this when signing up to their rental apps. This has led to inexperienced drivers, many of whom are children, riding dangerously amongst other road users on busy streets.

Accidents

Whilst escooters it is now very common to see people riding e-scooters along the roads and pavements in the UK.

Unfortunately, due to the limited protection afforded to the riders, this means the rate of e-scooter related accidents has surged and the number continues to rise.

Although encouraged, it is not a requirement to wear protective gear or a helmet when hiring an e-scooter and their motors are effectively silent making them difficult to hear on the approach.

Due to their limited braking capacity and high speeds, it is common to hear of accidents involving both scooter riders and pedestrians.

The impact these accidents have on people’s lives can be catastrophic, injuries include severe fractures, injury to the head, neck or spine and sadly some fatalities have been reported.

Statistics

Government statistics for 2021 estimate a number of personal injury road traffic collisions involving escooters.

  • In 2021 reported a staggering 1,280 accidents compared to 460 in 2020
  • 309 included only one e-scooter with no other vehicles involved
  • 1,359 casualties in collisions involving e-scooters
  • 9 killed in collisions involving e-scooters
  • 390 seriously injured and 960 slightly injured casualties

Compensation

There are however, a lot of responsible e-scooter users who are involved in accidents through no fault of their own.

These can occur due to pot holes in the road or through the negligence of another road user, for example. Whether you have been injured when riding an e-scooter yourself, or if you were a pedestrian involved in a collision, you may be entitled to compensation.

Our team of highly experienced solicitors are experts in obtaining compensation for some of the most seriously injured people. We offer free advice for anyone who needs it and operate a ‘no win, no, fee’ service for our clients.

Whatever the cause of your injury, if it was an accident that you have suffered as a result of someone else’s negligence – either partly or fully – you could be eligible to claim compensation.

No Win No Fee

No Win No Fee agreement, also known as a Conditional Fee Agreement (CFA) in the legal world, is an arrangement between a claimant and solicitor. In simple terms a ‘No Win No Fee’ arrangement means that you will not pay a fee if your claim is unsuccessful.

Stonehewer Moss Solicitors, based in Northwich, is one of Cheshire’s leading personal injury claims solicitors, with vast experience and an extensive record of compensation claims success for a wide range of injury types.

Why should I claim compensation?

There are many reasons why you may want to consider claiming compensation for your personal injury. For example, if you have suffered from an injury that has left you with long-term physical or psychological damage, then claiming compensation can help to cover the cost of your medical treatment and any other expenses that you have incurred as a result of your injury. Additionally, if you have been unable to work due

to your injury, claiming compensation can help to replace some of your lost income. Finally, claiming compensation can also help to hold the person or organisation responsible for your injury accountable for their actions.
