The father of the bride pays for what?
The father of the bride pays for what? Cheshire family law specialists Stonehewer Moss have noted BBC research that reveal the average couple overspends by £11,000 on the wedding day but what does this mean in reality. Michael Brennan, an accredited specialist at the Northwich solicitors, believes in most cases it is possibly not the couple that are being asked to pay, with the overspend being picked up by the father of the bride or ( more likely given current economic demographics) the wealthiest grand parent of the couple. Michael says,” I find the sums of money spent on the Wedding Day obscene and frankly think the hard earned resources of the wealthy members of a family should be protected. If I was being asked, I accept you cannot refuse, to pay an extra £10,000 above what presumably was already a budget of in excess of £20,000, I would insist that the couple took advice on a pre nup at least. Ideally the pre nup should be signed up. One third of marriages fail; in very rough terms at least £10,000 of your wedding day budget is being gambled and who knows how much more of a families` worth is being put at risk. A pre nup is the nearest thing you will get to a guarantee against dissipation of hard earned resources. Nobody expects a daughter to be divorced but game theory is not sentimental and life follows the theory. At Stonehewer Moss we have been offering pre nups with a will in anticipation of marriage for £750 but I have had no takers. That is one tenth of the average divorce bill and one fortieth of the sums the child you love urges you to spend on the Wedding Day. Having a pre nup will make the sad days that statistics suggest may well happen in the future a lot more manageable for your child or grandchild and being firm with her that she must spend some of your money at least taking advice is only reflective of your love for her not evidence of the couple being unromantic”.
The father of the bride pays for what? Hopefully a few less sleepless nights if it does not work out.
