Getting Healthcare Abroad
If you suffer from a holiday accident, holiday injury or holiday illness whilst abroad, you may need medical treatment. Before you travel, you should apply for a European Health Insurance Card (EIHC). The card is free to apply for and should be taken with you on your holiday abroad.
Your EHIC lets you get state healthcare at a reduced cost or sometimes for free. It will cover you for any treatment that is needed to allow you to continue your stay until your planned return. It also covers you for treatment of pre-existing medical conditions and for routine maternity care.
