What is Collaborative Law?
This is an approach in which each party instructs a specially trained collaborative lawyer. The two collaborative lawyers and their clients work together co-operatively in order to resolve matters without going to court. The aim is to reach settlement in constructive, four-way meetings in which the collaborative lawyers provide legal advice and guidance to their clients and encourage them to negotiate with each other. If no settlement is reached, new lawyers in different firms have to be instructed for court proceedings.
Collaborative is often a civilised way to achieve an amicable settlement that can be achieved within a budget you set. It has the added advantage of enabling you to keep your finances secret from the public that may happen through divorce, while keeping control that is lost if you take the issues to the judge to decide.
